Summer is the best. The days are longer, the weather is better, and there’s so much to do outside! Summer is a time to relax, a time to enjoy friends and family, and of course a time for vacations.
But it’s also a time when you may lose some motivation to stay on your fitness regimen. So, in addition to stressing the importance of staying the course, we want to offer you some great tips for staying fit this summer—and for staying safe while you work out.
- Hydration is key!
Summer temperatures can be a killer. Literally. That’s why we cannot overstress the importance of staying hydrated. Drink lots of water. And, yes, we know that water can get boring. So try our BCAAs with electrolytes. This delicious workout drink comes in two flavors—Berry Fruit Blast and Tropical Mango Delight—and mixes easily in your water for a drink that will not only keep you hydrated, but also help you recover from your workout. Want to know why BCAAs are so important? Check out our blog!
- Stay motivated
You’ve worked hard all year to have a body you are proud to show off in a bathing suit. Don’t let the thrill of ice cream, junk food on vacations, or just general malaise about the heat keep you from maintaining that body. Stay motivated to work out. Set goals. Get a workout buddy. Or use an app that offers encouragement and tracks your progress.
- Work out during cooler times of the day
If you’re one of those people who likes to jog outside, go hiking or get your fitness workout done outside, do so during the early morning hours or after dinner when it’s not so hot. Make sure you have plenty to drink. And if you’re going to be outside for a while, make sure you have something to eat. Our Inspired-Bar 2.0 protein bars are a great meal replacement and can easily fit in a backpack.
- Eat light!
Nothing tastes better or more refreshing in the summertime than an ice-cold smoothie! And they’re so easy to make. Just add some juice and some fruit to a blender or smoothie maker, and you’re good to go. If you want something that provides protein, we have some great recipes that use our whey protein powder. Check out our recipe for a blueberry protein shake or our spiced beet chai latte. Plus, find other recipes on our blog.
- Try something new
Spending day after day in the gym can become boring, so get outside and try a new sport to keep you moving. Ride a bike, try paddle boarding or canoeing, take up swimming or even golf. Find an outdoor basketball hoop and start a pickup game. These outdoor activities will keep your heart rate up and are fun ways to enjoy the outdoors.
- Walk!
The days are longer, so it’s still light when you get home from work. Enjoy a dinner with your family, then take a walk with your spouse or children (or alone) after dinner. The fresh air and exercise will feel great!
Summer is a wonderful time of the year, but it doesn’t have to ruin the hard work you’ve done all year. Work out smart. Work out hard. Stay hydrated. And have fun doing something different.
