What Carbs are Best for You?

carbs blog 2

Despite what you hear, there are foods to eat with carbs that are good for your health and your waistline.

For those of you watching your weight, the word “carbohydrate” may feel like a swear word. However, it doesn’t need to be. Believe it or not, carbs are an essential part of our diet, and eliminating them from yours can cause trouble. Without carbs, your body could have issues regulating blood sugars and become lethargic. So, the question is: What carbs should you be eating?

There is such a thing as “good carbs” that can help you lose weight! I know it sounds unbelievable, but it is true.  Here are a few foods to eat that are what we call “good carbs.”

Beans

Black beans, green beans, or you name the bean: They all have a significant amount of fiber and very little sugar. An ounce of basically any bean will have approximately 6-8 grams of carbs. One-third of those will be fiber. Beans also provide you with protein!

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is an excellent source of fiber and is very healthy (as long as you don’t go crazy with sugary toppings). This perfect snack has been proven to help with weight loss and can lower cholesterol.

Sourdough Bread

I know the word “bread” can be scary if you are trying to lose weight. However, just like carbs, not all bread is terrible. Sourdough is different from other bread because it is made through a fermentation process. Therefore, it contains probiotics! And it is easier on those who are gluten intolerant. Sourdough will also provide you with nutrients that aid in digestion!

In conclusion…

Not all carbs are created equal, but it’s important to know what a good carb can do for you! Take time to research the difference between good carbs and bad. Comment below with your favorite good carb! We love hearing from our PI readers!
