I was your average couch potato with 42 years of laziness under my belt. I never cared about fitness or health. In fact, I hated fitness posts with a passion….I mean why are they always so happy looking?
That was until July 2017, when my wife told me she was pregnant. We’ve been married for 10 years and have two other kids, but for some reason this time it hit me—I’m 42, I weigh 260lbs, I am on blood pressure medicine and cholesterol pills, and use a CPAP breathing machine at night. This is no way for anyone to live. I want to be a super hero to my kids and have a body my wife brags about.
“Am I too old?” “Isn’t fitness a thing teenagers do?” “Where do I even start?” “I have 3 kids and a wife; I don’t have time to do anything let alone workout.” All of these thoughts raced through my head, and I realized they were all just excuses. So, I started a fitness journey that became a fitness life.
And how do I find time to work out? Easy. I get up at 3 AM, go to the gym and destroy the place. The workout sets the entire tone for the day. Then I come home, wake the kids up, get them off to school, and head to work.
As I progressed in my fitness journey, I naturally got into supplements. The first time you walk into a fitness store, it can be overwhelming. How does each one work and when do you use each one?
What was your diet like in those 8 months?
Hey! I use protein mixed with creatine after i lift in the morning and around 3:00pm as a afternoon snack. The BCAA’s i use during workouts. I take the ZMA’s at night. The protein helps muscle recovery, Creatine helps to regenerate a molecule called adenosine triphosphate (ATP), your body’s main source of energy. Bcaa’s reduce fatigue, accelerate recovery, reduce muscle soreness, and improve the use of fat for energy. Zma’s are great for metabolism, muscle health and sleep. I eat half cup of oatmeal for breakfast, eggs mid morning, salad for lunch, eggs and peanut butter mid afternoon and what ever the wife makes for supper (normal person portions).
