Five Awesome Benefits of Protein Cookies and Protein Bars

benefits of protein snacks blog

Protein cookies and bars are some of the most popular portable snack foods today. Why? There are many reasons, but we want to highlight just five of them, and then we will compare the PI bar and cookie to some of the others on the market to help you see that not only are our products a great value for the price but they’re good for you in many ways.

Why is protein important?

Our bodies depend on three macronutrients in order to properly function. One is protein. The other two are healthy fats and carbohydrates. All three are necessary, but protein helps support a healthy immune system and muscle growth. Further, according to Naked Nutrition: “Protein intake has been shown to help people feel more satisfied after mealtime, preserve lean mass, and possibly increase metabolism. All of these outcomes can result in weight loss or weight maintenance.”

So here are five great reasons to add protein bars or cookies to your daily meal plan.

1. Protein cookies and bars are healthy snacks.

Most of us understand that midday craving when you want something that’s not only filling but maybe a little sweet too. Cookies and bars fill this role. But they’re not just filling and tasty. They’re healthy for you—if you choose the right brand. And they’re so much better than grabbing a candy bar from the vending machine or running out for a fast-food fix.

2. Protein cookies and bars are a good meal replacement.

Protein bars and cookies contain fewer calories than a burger or a sandwich laden with sauce. If you are looking to lose weight, try replacing either breakfast or lunch with a protein bar or cookie. Make sure to choose a brand (like PI’s) with other essential nutrients.

3. Protein cookies and bars are beneficial after a workout.

Protein is essential after a workout and has been proven to help in recovery and in the rebuilding of muscle. A cookie or bar packed with protein is perfect on the drive home from the gym or on the ride back to work after a midday workout.

4. Protein cookies and bars are convenient.

Protein bars and cookies come individually packaged, so they’re easy to throw into a gym bag, into your purse, or even into your jacket pocket. Keep one in your glove compartment for when you’re out running errands and you feel snacky. A healthy bar or cookie will be much better than a fast-food burger.

5. Protein cookies and bars curb that sweet craving.

Just the little bit of chocolate, a hint of salt, or maybe even some caramel or peanut butter is enough to keep you from diving into a box of cookies or making that microwave brownie. Plus, when you know that you are putting good food in your body, your mind will eventually begin to crave wholesome food instead of junk food.

PI’s protein cookies meet all five of these criteria!

Performance Inspired’s protein cookies are huge! These 71-gram cookies come packed with (depending on whether you choose chocolate chip or peanut butter) 14g-15g of isolate proteins, 6g-7g of fiber, and are made with only natural ingredients and sweetened with Stevia and Monk Fruit. We use only clean ingredients—never anything artificial. You care about what you put into your body, and we do too! Plus, our cookies taste delicious, have zero trans fats, and contain 90-160mg of calcium.

Let’s compare with a couple other brands out there. Many are laden with junk, but below are two of the most popular brands you may feel tempted to try.

At first glance, the Quest protein cookies might seem like a possible contender as a good protein cookie, but once you read the ingredients you find that it contains erythritol, which has been known to cause upset stomachs. PI’s cookies don’t contain erythritol. And while Quest offers a good amount of protein and fiber, its much smaller than PI’s cookie. Each cookie is just 59 grams. So, with PI, you get better value for your money, and you know your stomach will be happy!

Lenny and Larry’s protein cookie may be large and full of protein. But wait? A serving size is half a cookie? Not many people will stop at half a cookie. And do you know what it’s also full of? Ingredients like vegetable glycerin and sodium. One serving—yes, half the cookie—has nearly twice the sodium content of PI’s cookie.

PI’s protein bars also meet all five of these criteria!

Our Inspired-Bar 2.0 is hugely popular—and HUGE! This 70-gram bar contains 20g of protein, 6g of fiber, 4g of MCT oil, 1 billion CFU bacillus coagulants, and 5mcg of chromium (which helps control blood sugar). Plus it’s gluten free! And as with all of our products, we don’t use any artificial ingredients. Compare our bar to others, and you will see that, not only is it bigger but that the clean ingredients will leave you feeling full and healthy.

Let’s look at some junk food for comparison. A Snickers bar contains 30 grams of sugar, 1 gram of fiber, and very little protein, while a 3 Musketeers bar contains 37 grams of sugar and less than 1 gram of fiber. You will get nothing but a sugar spike from these sweet snacks.

But what about other bars? How does PI compare?

PowerBar is one of the most popular protein bars out there. The chocolate brownie protein bar is only 60 grams. And while it has 20 grams of protein, it also has a lot more carbs and a lot less fiber than our Inspired-Bar 2.0.

Quest bars and One protein bars are similar to PI’s bar in protein content, but in One, the Stevia is known to give the bar an overpowering flavor, and Quest contains artificial ingredients.

These don’t seem like good options.

What about the Quaker peanut butter chocolate protein bar? This bar is just 47 grams and contains only 10 grams of protein and 2 grams of fiber. Plus, it is filled with a whole host of unhealthy ingredients.

The Zone Perfect fudge graham bar is just 50 grams, and it has only 14 grams of protein.

Let’s look at another. Kellogg’s Fiber Plus Antioxidants Protein Peanut Chewy Bars are only 40 grams. They contain just 10 grams of protein and are filled with unhealthy ingredients.

The LARABAR almond butter chocolate chip is a 45-gram bar and has just 5 grams of protein.

The list goes on and on. So while a package may say it’s a protein bar, it may not actually contain much protein. And once you read the ingredient label, you’re likely to see all of the unhealthy additives.

Not so with PI’s products. Ours contain only natural ingredients because we care about what you put into your body. So the next time you reach for a snack, grab a PI cookie or bar. Your body will thank you!
