Cupping with Justin James

Justin James is a Performance Inspired Athlete that struggles a lot with tightness in his upper body and thoracic spine. Justin uses the therapeutic cupping technique to:

Draw blood into area of pain for circulation and healing purposes.

One of the most common reasons an athlete performs this therapeutic process is to help reduce pain.  Cupping focuses on soft tissue, by applying local pressure to pain points and areas of swelling. When the blood flow increases inside vessels and capillaries, it provides tissue to receive nutrients and oxygen.

Work out knots and realign muscle fibers.

Another reason Justin uses the Cupping is to heal his collagen fibers and realign them. The healing/realignment of collagen fibers is a common benefit gained through massage.  Massages help repair damaged tissues. By Justin moving the cups to act like a massage, he is breaking down the collagen fibers in his body.

Try to increase his range of motion by performing mobility exercises (active release) with the cups on.

Not only does cupping help with pain, it will also help with the range of motion in your body. After a cupping treatment, athletes range in motion can increase between ten to fifteen degrees. Since cupping acts a massage it will help reduce restriction and pain. Justin says he really enjoys cupping and feels much looser after.

Justin just started to use cupping and said it is something he will defiantly continue to do. Justin also says he notice a big difference before cupping and after with mobility.  Below is a video on Justin James going through his therapeutic cupping technique.
