New Year’s Resolutions

The new year can be a great starting point to make a change in your life. Whether you’re trying to quit smoking, lose weight, or start exercising, the new year can give you the motivation you need to finally start to change.

However, making a lifestyle change isn’t easy at all. That’s why PI is here to help. We have a few tips to help you keep your New Year’s resolution.

BE REALISTIC

Did you know that only about 20 percent make it through the year with their resolutions? The reason most people fail at their resolution goals is that their New Year’s resolution is unrealistic.  For example, some people will make a resolution not to eat chocolate ever again. Honestly, that’s just setting yourself up to fail. The resolution instead should be to cut back on eating chocolate from every day to maybe one to two times a week. By setting realistic goals, you are less likely to fail.

INCLUDE A TIME FRAME

A time frame is vital for motivation. It’s your barometer for success and the way you assess your short-term progress toward the ultimate long-term goal. Buy a calendar or diary so you can plan your actions for the coming weeks or months and decide when and how often to evaluate your progress.

REWARD YOURSELF

As you achieve small goals,  make sure you reward yourself. For example, say, “When I lose my first five pounds, I’m going to go buy the new shoes I want.” By rewarding yourself for each goal you accomplish, you’ll be more likely to succeed.
