No whey? No way! Yikes! My exact thoughts when my doctor told me I should cut dairy (including whey protein) out of my diet for a bit to allow my stomach some recovery time. What was I going to do? At that time, Ripped Whey was the life blood my body yearned for after an intense workout. Enter Performance Inspired Plant-Based Protein. It was my saving grace for post-workout protein as well as one of my shakes throughout the day.
Being dairy-free AND gluten-free was a big deal for me. I opted for the Chocolate Delight flavor so considered my before-bed protein shake my dessert nightcap. I’m not going to lie, I was a little “iffy” at first. It was like someone changing your morning coffee! Scary, right? Before I tried it, I read up on it. I already trusted it. Coming from a company like Performance Inspired, what’s not trust? I knew it was clean and natural and would have the protein my body needed. What I really loved was in a time when my tummy needed it the most, it had added probiotics for gut health and 5 grams of fiber to help get going! With a combination of pea protein AND rice protein to create a protein based on multi-plant sources, as well as getting some greens from the kale powder, spinach powder, and broccoli powder, how could I go wrong? It gets better! Each 8-12-ounce shake (you can make it with water or coconut/almond/cashew/rice milk to keep it vegan), contains 20 grams of protein. Chocolate AND 20 grams of protein, what’s the catch, you ask? No catch.
I loved what I read so decided to delve deep in the realm of plant-based protein. I used 10 ounces of water for my first shake. I was worried it was going to be a little watery, but let me tell you something: Performance Inspired Plant-Based Protein is the creamiest smoothest protein I’ve ever had! I enjoyed it so much, I still mixed it into my protein intake as a dessert. It works really well with almond coconut milk, frozen sweet dark cherries, and a little cinnamon all blended up. The whole time I’m downing this delicious shake, I’m thinking, “This has to be loaded with calories, sugar, fat, and carbs. It’s way too good.” I’m not good at admitting when I’m wrong, but I was SO wrong. When it comes to calories, you’re looking at only 130 calories. Lots of sugar? Nope, only 2 grams. Fat? Nothing to worry about, only 2.5 grams. What about carbs? Only 4 net carbs! This was absolutely amazing!
For anyone out there that is serious about performance and leading a healthy lifestyle, but is on a vegan diet, this is the protein for you. Even if you’re not a vegan, this protein is great. It provides you with a great amount of protein, tastes delicious, and comes from a company you can truly trust. Have a serving immediately following your workout, and then another throughout the day if your keeping up with your 20 – 25 grams of protein every 4 hours.
