Volvik World Long Drive Championship 2017: Justin James Wins with 435-Yard Blast

The 2017 Volvik World Long Drive Championship ended with some major power from champion Justin James.

James took home the title on September 6 at WinStar World Casino and Resort, defeating Canadian Mitch Grassing.

James won the event, which was presented by Performance Inspired, with a colossal 435-yard drive. James had previously advanced against Paul Howell in the quarterfinals with a 434-yard drive, followed by a 437-yard blast in the semis against Kyle Berkshire.

The powerful slam set a record for the longest clinching drive in Volvik World Long Drive Championship history—the cherry on top of his major payday.

“It’s crazy. I can’t really describe it,” James said to Golf Channel after his win. “You know they say when I watch games, ‘There are no words,’ and I think they’re stupid. But now I’m the stupid one, because there’s no words to describe this. It’s the best thing ever.”

“I feel honored and blessed to be a part of the PI family. World Championship week is the most stressful of our season, but having incredible people behind you makes it a lot easier to handle. Thanks to Tom, Mark, Draymond, and the rest of the incredible team at Performance Inspired. ” – Justin James
